US Ambassador Donald Blome Visits Karachi to Strengthen US-Pakistan Partnership
US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, recently paid a visit to Karachi from June 22 to 24 with the aim of enhancing the strong bilateral ties and further strengthening the robust economic partnership between the United States and Pakistan. The visit also served as an opportunity to underscore the significance of the US-Pakistan “Green Alliance” framework in promoting sustainable development and cooperation.
During his stay in Karachi, Ambassador Blome engaged in various activities and meetings with key stakeholders. He met with government officials, participated in discussions with the American Business Council, the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Pakistan Council on Foreign Relations. Ambassador Blome also had the privilege of attending the celebration of the 247th US Independence Day in Karachi, where he was joined by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other prominent figures from the political, business, and civil society sectors.
In his address during the reception, Ambassador Blome expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Pakistan and highlighted the commonalities and shared achievements between the American and Pakistani people. He emphasized the potential for both nations to collaborate in building a stable, green, and prosperous future.
A significant part of Ambassador Blome’s visit was dedicated to discussing opportunities for expanding trade and economic cooperation between the United States and Pakistan. During his meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, they explored avenues for enhancing the partnership in various sectors. The ambassador also had fruitful discussions with industry leaders at the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the American Business Council, focusing on promoting private sector-led, equitable, and sustainable economic growth.
Ambassador Blome underscored the importance of the US-Pakistan “Green Alliance,” a new framework aimed at fostering climate-smart agriculture and private sector-led growth in Pakistan. He reaffirmed the commitment to boosting bilateral trade and investment, highlighting the United States’ role as Pakistan’s largest bilateral trade partner and one of its major sources of foreign direct investment.
Furthermore, the ambassador visited the Joint Maritime Information Command Center (JMICC) and met with Rear Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz, the COMCOAST Commander, to discuss maritime peace and stability in the region. The United States is keen on strengthening maritime security cooperation with the Pakistan Navy to ensure freedom of navigation in international waters, thereby facilitating economic activities both regionally and globally.
In his speech at the Pakistan Council on Foreign Relations (PCFR), Ambassador Blome expressed optimism about the future of US-Pakistan relations. He emphasized the potential for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, clean energy, health security, climate change, inclusive governance, and regional security.
During his visit to Karachi, Ambassador Blome also had the privilege of attending the Commencement Exercise at the Pakistan Naval Academy, further highlighting the importance of maritime cooperation and security between the two nations.
Ambassador Blome’s visit to Karachi served as a testament to the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan and reinforced their commitment to working together for mutual prosperity and regional stability.
