In May 2023, the cement industry experienced a significant surge in demand, leading to a remarkable 19.41% increase in Cement sales. The total dispatches reached 3.966 million tons, surpassing the 3.321 million tons recorded in the same month of the previous year.
Data recently released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association reveals that local cement sales reached 3.433 million tons in May 2023, marking a 9.01% increase from the 3.150 million tons sold in May 2022.
Notably, exports witnessed a remarkable growth of 210.13%, with volumes reaching 533,155 tons in May 2023 compared to 171,915 tons in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Cement mills in the northern region dispatched a total of 2.880 million tons to both domestic and overseas markets, representing an 8.85% increase compared to the 2.646 million tons dispatched in May of the previous year.
Meanwhile, mills located in the southern region sold 1.086 million tons, demonstrating a significant growth of 60.77% when compared to the 0.676 million tons sold the previous year.
In May 2023, the northern mills supplied 2.768 million tons to the domestic market, marking a 7.58% increase from the 2.573 million tons supplied in May 2022. On the other hand, southern mills delivered 664,891 tons to local markets, reflecting a 15.36% increase from the 576,385 tons dispatched last year.
During the first 11 months (July-May) of the current fiscal year, the total cement dispatches, including both domestic sales and exports, amounted to 40.518 million tons. This figure represents a decrease of 14.93% compared to the supplies of 47.627 million tons recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Domestic dispatches during the 11-month period amounted to 36.528 million tons, a reduction of 14.36% from the 42.655 million tons recorded last year.
