Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Affirms Loyalty to PML-N and Nawaz Sharif
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met with the party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif in London to discuss recent developments. Abbasi, who recently resigned from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, expressed his unwavering support for the PML-N and clarified that there are no differences between him and the party leadership.
Abbasi’s resignation from the ECC came after a reported disagreement over the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Azerbaijan through an intergovernmental approach. He had expressed opposition to acquiring LNG through the state-owned Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and instead advocated for involving a private Pakistani company. However, the Petroleum Division declined to prepare the required summary as directed by Abbasi.
Speaking to journalists after his meeting with Nawaz Sharif, Abbasi emphasized his commitment to the PML-N and affirmed that he is a dedicated party worker. He clarified that there are no internal rifts within the party and dismissed speculations about forming a new political party.
Regarding the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, Abbasi stated that holding them in October-November is mandatory as per the law and the Constitution. He criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, accusing it of dissolving the provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to create unrest in the country.
Abbasi also expressed his readiness to participate in the elections if they are conducted in a fair and meaningful manner. The PML-N leader’s stance highlights his commitment to democratic processes and his dedication to serving the people of Pakistan.
