Shaheen Shah Afridi Becomes the 19th Pakistani Player to Reach 100 Test Wickets
Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has achieved a remarkable milestone, taking a total of 100 Test wickets. This feat makes him the 19th player from the Green Shirts to reach this commendable landmark.
Afridi’s momentous achievement occurred during Pakistan’s Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. He claimed the wicket of Nishan Madushka in the second over of the first Test, marking his official comeback to Test cricket.
The triumphant return came during the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, heralding the action-packed 2023-24 international cricket season for the home side. It was an emotional return for Shaheen, as he had been away from Test cricket for almost a year due to a knee injury sustained during the first Test at Galle the previous year.
Speaking with enthusiasm, Afridi shared his excitement about making his Test comeback in the very country where he faced the injury. He had been working diligently on his rehabilitation and made a successful return to international cricket during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia last year.
Despite his exceptional bowling skills, Shaheen has also been honing his batting prowess during his time away from the game. His brilliant 44 not out off just 15 balls played a vital role in Lahore Qalandars’ thrilling victory against Multan Sultans in the PSL 8 final. He also showcased his hitting abilities on the international stage when he smashed New Zealand’s Blair Tickner for 22 runs (three sixes and a four) in the last over of the fourth One-Day International in Karachi, helping Pakistan reach a total of 334.
Shaheen’s contributions with the bat add a new dimension to his game and make him an even more valuable asset for Pakistan. Despite his impressive batting display, Shaheen remains committed to his primary role as a bowler and is determined to continue making an impact for his country.
