Karachi: Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s formidable fast bowler, is expected to be rested for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The decision is being made in order to manage his workload ahead of this year’s World Cup.
The schedule for the two-match Test series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship, will be announced soon by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Earlier reports suggested that Pakistan might not play any ODI matches during their Test tour of Sri Lanka. Discussions between the SLC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) were held to explore the possibility of including ODI matches alongside the Test series. However, unforeseen circumstances have led to the likely abandonment of this idea.
Currently, Shaheen Afridi is participating in England’s T20 Blast for Nottinghamshire, where he has already taken 13 wickets in nine matches. He believes that playing in league cricket provides him with valuable experience that he can share with other players upon his return.
“When playing in league cricket, I come across players who also perform at the international level. This allows me to gain insights on how to bowl to them effectively,” Shaheen told Geo News last month. He further emphasized that this experience will contribute to his preparation for the World Cup, enabling him to build momentum and enhance his performance.
It is worth noting that Pakistan is set to participate in the World Cup, scheduled to take place in India in October-November this year.
