PM Shehbaz Calls for Clarification and Urges UN Involvement
Prime Minister Shehbaz, addressing the joint session, called upon the Swedish government to clarify its position regarding the desecration of the Holy Quran. He questioned why such an act was allowed under the protection of their police on the day when Muslims were celebrating Eid ul Adha. The prime minister stressed that any recurrence of such a condemnable act would not be tolerated.
PM Shehbaz also urged United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to convene an urgent session and invite leaders from the Muslim world to adopt a condemnatory resolution. He suggested the formation of a committee within the National Assembly to formulate recommendations for dissemination to the international community, including international organizations, to prevent such acts in the future.
The prime minister called on the parliamentarians to condemn the actions of the Swedish police and assert that Muslims are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect the sanctity of the Holy Quran. He emphasized that peaceful protests should not be mistaken as weakness, and warned of the consequences if such despicable actions were repeated.
As Pakistan prepares to observe the Sanctity of the Holy Quran Day, the prime minister urged the nation to stage rallies across the country to condemn the desecration and convey their sentiments to the world. He condemned the incident in the strongest possible words, expressing appreciation for the support shown by former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to the Muslim community in the aftermath of an Islamophobic attack.
