  • Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets in Quetta for Muharram crescent moon sighting.
  • Pakistan’s new Islamic year, 1445 AH, likely to begin based on the crescent sighting.
  • Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts slim chances due to astronomical conditions, and weather may be partly cloudy or cloudy in many areas.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Gathers in Quetta to Sight Muharram Crescent

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene in Quetta today (Tuesday) to witness the sighting of the crescent of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. Led by the committee chairman, Moulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the meeting aims to observe the celestial event marking the beginning of the new Islamic year, 1445 AH.

Meetings of Zonal and District Moon Sighting Committees

Simultaneously, the zonal and district moon sighting committees will also assemble at their respective headquarters to carry out the sighting process. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that there are slender chances of sighting the Muharram moon on July 18 (Tuesday) due to the astronomical parameters.

New Moon and Crescent Sighting

The Met Department has shared that the new moon will be born at the crossing conjunction point at 11:32 pm on July 17 (Monday). Therefore, the crescent will likely be visible on the subsequent day, July 18. However, the sighting remains uncertain given the astronomical conditions.

Weather Conditions and Observations

Considering the climate record, the PMD predicts that most parts of the country may experience partly cloudy or cloudy weather during the sighting process.
