ATMs Out of Cash as Eid Approaches

  • Karachi residents face a shortage of cash in ATMs ahead of the Eid ul Adha festival.
  • Complaints from consumers about non-functional and cashless ATMs are common during Eid occasions.
  • The scarcity of cash in ATMs during the festive period is due to high cash withdrawals for purchasing sacrificial animals.

Karachi residents are encountering a predicament as automated teller machines (ATMs) in the city are running out of cash ahead of the upcoming festival of Eid ul Adha, which will be celebrated on June 29 across Pakistan.

Complaints from consumers about the unavailability of ATM services before Eid occasions are not uncommon. Frustrated individuals who have been affected by this issue expressed their concerns, stating that they have made multiple visits to ATMs since morning but have been unable to withdraw cash.

The scarcity of cash in ATMs during the festive period is typically attributed to the significant number of people withdrawing large amounts of money for purchasing sacrificial animals. As Eid draws near, this issue tends to arise, causing inconvenience for the public.

This year, Pakistan will celebrate Eid ul Adha on June 29 (Thursday). The government has declared a four-day holiday, including the Day of Arafah on June 28.

According to a statement released by the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister has approved a revised schedule for public holidays during Eid ul Adha. For offices observing five-day working weeks, the holidays will be observed on June 28th, 29th, and 30th, while offices with six-day working weeks will have holidays from June 28th to July 1st.
