Imran Khan Nominated in Six Cases of May 9 Vandalism, Including Attacks on GHQ and Metro Station
Islamabad: In a significant development in the investigation of the May 9 violence, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has been nominated in six cases, which involve attacks on the General Headquarters (GHQ), military installations, and the arson incident at Metro Station. The cases were registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), with three cases filed on May 9 and three on May 10, according to sources reported by The News.
Joint investigation teams (JITs) are currently probing all the cases, as stated by the sources. The cases were registered by the respective police officials at various police stations, including Civil Lines in Faisalabad, Samanabad, RA Bazar, and New Town police stations in Rawalpindi, City Police Station in Mianwali, and Police Station Cantt in Gujranwala.
Notably, Imran Khan had not been named in any of the 28 previously registered cases in Rawalpindi. The decision to include his name was based on the statements provided by the suspects under investigation and consultations with legal experts, added the sources.
The cases related to the attacks on the GHQ and military installations were registered at RA Bazar and New Town police stations. On May 9, violent protesters caused extensive damage to the gates of the Pakistan Army’s GHQ in Rawalpindi. Additionally, PTI supporters attacked and damaged the Corps’ Commander’s House, formerly known as Jinnah House, which had once served as the residence of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. These acts of vandalism were carried out shortly after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Imran Khan on the same day.
