In the ongoing four-nation cup held in Mauritius, Pakistan suffered another setback as they faced a 1-0 defeat against Kenya in their second match.
Kenya’s dominance was evident throughout most of the game, although Pakistan’s performance showed improvement compared to their previous contest. Ranked 103rd in the FIFA rankings, Shumah Moses of Kenya capitalized on a throw-in and scored the opening goal in the 17th minute.
In the 39th minute, Hassan Bashir had an opportunity to equalize, but unfortunately, he failed to convert the chance. Despite their efforts in the second half, Pakistan was unable to find the back of the net.
With this loss, Pakistan’s chances of progressing in the tournament have diminished, and they will now face Djibouti in their final match on June 17.
Kenya, boasting the highest ranking in the tournament at 102, leads the competition. Following them are Mauritius at 180 and Djibouti at 193, while Pakistan holds the lowest rank at 195.
The current Pakistan team consists predominantly of diaspora players, many of whom possess impressive credentials. It will be a crucial period for the foreign-based staff, and their performance in upcoming assignments, including the SAFF Cup scheduled in Bengaluru from June 21 to July 4, will be closely watched. If permitted by the authorities, Pakistan will then move from Mauritius to India.
