A momentous event took place as a truck carrying cold chain containers loaded with seafood from Pakistan successfully arrived in Kashgar city, located in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, via a cross-border land route.
According to a report published on Friday by the Global Times, this achievement marks the first-ever transportation of seafood containers from Pakistan to Kashgar city through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Expressing their excitement about this milestone, a representative from the Pakistani transport company stated, “This is our inaugural venture in bilateral cross-border road transport with a Chinese firm. We are currently evaluating the cost and pricing of cold chain transport on this route, while our Chinese partners are actively exploring additional opportunities for importing commodities from Pakistan.”
The representative also highlighted the advantages of road transport, emphasizing the significant reduction in shipment costs compared to air transport and the simplified customs clearance procedures. Notably, the truck completed its journey in just eight days, whereas sea transport from Karachi Port to Shanghai’s Yangshan Port typically takes nearly a month.
