According to Ahsan Iqbal, the Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Pakistan’s blue economy holds immense potential, estimated to exceed $100 billion. In order to explore the abundant opportunities, the government is embarking on new projects aimed at developing coastal areas.
During the inaugural session of the international symposium on the Geo Economic and Maritime dimensions of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the minister emphasized the accelerated progress achieved by the current administration in implementing CPEC projects.
Under the previous government’s four-year tenure, no substantial work was undertaken in Gwadar, the port city. However, it was under the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government that the groundbreaking CPEC project was launched, proving to be a transformative force for the country.
Minister Iqbal highlighted the need for every Pakistani citizen to contribute diligently towards national development and the elevation of per capita income. He reminded everyone of the PML-N government’s significant investments, including the establishment of an extensive network of highways and motorways across the country, along with an impressive addition of 11,000 MW of electricity to the national grid.
In 2018, Pakistan experienced a surge in investor interest, and the government aims to continue this momentum. To minimize the burden on the national treasury, the government is actively seeking partnerships with the private sector to launch new development projects.
