USAID Provides Pakistan with $445.6 Million in 5-Year Grant
ISLAMABAD: The government announced on Wednesday that Pakistan will receive $445.6 million over a span of five years from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) through a development objectives assistance agreement.
The grant falls under the bilateral Development Objectives Assistance Agreement (DOAG) and aims to uplift Pakistan’s socio-economic conditions through various initiatives.
To formalize this partnership, Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division, and Reed Aeschliman, USAID Mission Director to Pakistan, signed a new five-year bilateral DOAG.
This agreement marks a significant milestone, as it comes after a 13-year hiatus since the last development partnership agreement, known as the “Pakistan Enhanced Partnership Agreement (PEPA),” signed in 2010. Under this renewed agreement, USAID will provide a generous grant of $445,600,000 over a five-year period.
The signing ceremony was attended by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, and Isobel Coleman, the Deputy Administrator of USAID.
This agreement holds immense potential for the socioeconomic progress of Pakistan. It focuses on key areas such as Climate-Resilient Economic Growth, Inclusive and Accountable Democratic Governance, and the improvement of health and education in the country.
The developmental objectives outlined in the DOAG align with Pakistan’s national vision and goals. The implementation of funded activities will be carried out in close coordination with the Government of Pakistan, further strengthening the bilateral relationship and enhancing the visibility of the Government of Pakistan.
Extensive consultations with federal and provincial departments preceded the signing of this agreement. It signifies a renewed commitment to transparency, accountability, and greater participation of Pakistani organizations in its implementation.
