HEC Warns Against Degrees from Unapproved Sub-Campuses
ISLAMABAD – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a stern warning to students regarding degrees obtained from unapproved sub-campuses of public sector universities, citing concerns over academic irregularities and educational quality.
Regulatory Alert
In an official “Parent and Student Alert” shared on its Instagram account, HEC clarified that degrees from sub-campuses not approved under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode will not be attested.
Past Issues and Advisory
The commission highlighted past issues with PPP campuses of certain public sector universities in Punjab, which were subsequently closed due to academic irregularities and quality concerns.
Advisory for Students
HEC advised prospective students to verify the recognition status of campuses on its official website. Degrees obtained from unapproved campuses will not be validated or attested by HEC, the advisory emphasized.
Phase-Out of Two-Year Programmes
Additionally, HEC reiterated its warning against admissions in phased-out two-year BA/Sc and MA/MSc programmes beyond the stipulated deadlines of 2019 and June 30, 2022. Degrees from these programmes do not qualify for HEC recognition or attestation.
Educational Standards
The decision to phase out these programmes was made in 2004 to align with international educational standards. While a transition period was allowed until 2016, HEC underscores the importance of adhering to current guidelines for quality assurance.
